Noblesville mold inspections
Mold testing in Noblesville, from downtown to the river
Separate sampling for old basements, crawlspace additions and flood-affected rooms, so each part of the house gets its own answer.
How is mold testing done in Noblesville homes?
Mold testing in Noblesville begins with how the house is put together. Many older homes near the courthouse square have a basement under the original section and a crawlspace under an addition, and homes near the White River may have a flood history. We inspect and sample each area separately: air with an outdoor comparison, dust when needed and any visible growth. The lab typically returns results within 24 to 48 hours.
Why one sample can't describe an older Noblesville home
An older Noblesville house often behaves like two or three buildings joined together. The fieldstone or brick basement under the original rooms passes moisture all year. The crawlspace under a later kitchen may have vents, a torn vapor barrier and damp joists. A newer family room may sit on a slab. Air moves between these sections through floor gaps and ductwork, but not evenly. A single living-room sample blends all of that into one number and hides where the mold actually is.
Sound familiar?
- Your downtown home has a stone basement, and you can't tell normal dampness from a mold problem.
- Water came in during a storm or high water, and you want to know if it's safe to put up new drywall.
- The addition over the crawlspace smells different from the rest of the house.
- You're buying an older Noblesville home, and the inspector couldn't get into the crawlspace.
We do it differently.
| A one-room test | AME Noblesville mold testing | |
|---|---|---|
| Mixed foundations | Treated as one house | Basement, crawlspace and slab areas sampled separately |
| Old masonry | Not assessed | Moisture readings on stone, brick and mortar |
| After flooding | Surfaces look dry, test passes | Moisture inside cavities measured before rebuilding |
| Outdoor baseline | Often skipped | Same-day outdoor air sample |
| Recommendations | Remove and replace | Drainage and moisture fixes considered first |

The AME Clearance Method
What happens during a Noblesville testing visit
We treat each part of the home as its own zone, then put the findings together.
Talk to a specialist-
Sketch the house
Which sections have a basement, a crawlspace or a slab, when additions were built and where water has come in over the years.
-
Check the masonry
Moisture readings on stone, brick or block foundation walls and the framing that rests on them, plus a look at gutters and grading outside.
-
Enter the crawlspace
Where it's safe to reach, we inspect joists, insulation and the vapor barrier, and take moisture readings on the wood.
-
Sample each zone
Air in each section with a same-day outdoor comparison, dust when growth may be long-standing, and tape samples of any visible spots.
-
Lab analysis
Samples go to the lab, and results usually come back in 24 to 48 hours.
-
Report by zone
Results are organized by section of the house, so it's clear which area needs attention and which doesn't.
What Noblesville mold testing includes
- A zone-by-zone layout of basement, crawlspace and slab areas
- Moisture readings on masonry foundations and framing
- Crawlspace inspection where accessible
- An exterior check of gutters, downspouts and grading
- Air samples in each zone plus an outdoor comparison
- Dust sampling for ERMI or HERTSMI-2 when warranted
- Tape samples of visible growth
- Results and recommendations organized by zone

Mold testing in Noblesville, explained
Old walls, newer additions
The homes around Noblesville’s courthouse square were built long before modern foundation waterproofing. Their cellars were meant for storage and a furnace, not for living space. Over the decades many of these houses gained a rear kitchen, a sunroom or a second bath, each built over whatever foundation made sense at the time. The joints between old and new construction are where we most often find moisture getting in.
Testing these homes well means sampling each section on its own terms. Our crawlspace mold in Indiana page describes what we look for under additions, and the reasons Indiana foundations stay wet are covered in whether Indiana clay soil causes basement moisture.
Testing after high water
Noblesville sits right on the White River, and heavy rain can raise groundwater and the smaller streams quickly. After water gets into a basement or crawlspace, many owners wait until things look dry and then rebuild. We’d rather test first. Moisture readings inside the wall and air or tape samples show whether growth has started, which decides whether a room needs remediation or simply more drying time.
When the mold is already visible
If you can already see growth on a basement wall or joist, testing still earns its place. It shows whether spores are reaching the rooms upstairs, identifies what’s growing and sets a baseline for clearance testing later. Read do I need a mold test if I can see mold for more on when it’s worth doing.
We test homes for mold and make building recommendations. Diagnosing or treating health conditions is outside what we do. Please talk with a doctor about any symptoms, and we can share results with them at your request.
Common questions
Have a question that isn't here? Call a specialist
Water got into our basement after heavy rain near the White River. When should we test?
Get the water out and start drying first. Then test before any new drywall, flooring or insulation goes in. Surfaces can look dry while wall cavities and framing are still wet, and new finishes over damp material are a common cause of repeat mold.
Is a damp stone basement normal in an old Noblesville house?
Some dampness is typical, because old masonry passes moisture from the soil. What matters is whether it's feeding mold. Testing and moisture readings tell you whether you need a dehumidifier and better drainage or actual remediation.
Can you test a crawlspace we can barely fit into?
If there's safe access, we go in. If not, we inspect from the access point, take moisture readings where we can reach and sample the air in the rooms above to see whether the crawlspace is affecting them.
Do you test homes around Morse Reservoir?
Yes. Lake homes on Morse, older homes downtown and subdivisions across Noblesville are all part of our Hamilton County service area, scheduled from our Avon office.
Will you tell me if I don't need remediation?
Yes. In older homes the answer is often better gutters, a working dehumidifier and a sound crawlspace vapor barrier. If testing supports that, the report says so.
We're done when the lab says so.
Every remediation ends with clearance testing, and our work is backed by a complete-removal guarantee. We don't close a job on a failed result.
