Mycotoxin testing for Fishers families
Mycotoxin testing in Fishers, IN
For families whose doctor asked about the house: dust panels that show which mold toxins are circulating, and from where.
What does mycotoxin testing in Fishers show?
Mycotoxin testing in Fishers shows which mold toxins have settled into a home's dust, and in which rooms. We collect dust from undisturbed surfaces, send it for a lab mycotoxin panel, and pair it with ERMI or HERTSMI-2 mold testing. In tightly built Fishers homes, where the HVAC system moves the same air through every room, the pattern across rooms often points straight to the source.
Why Fishers homes need more than an air test
Two things are common in Fishers: basements that have been through a sump failure or seepage, and newer, tightly sealed homes where the HVAC system recirculates most of the air. Put them together and fine dust from one damp corner can reach every bedroom. An air test captures the spores floating on the day of the visit. It says nothing about toxins that have been settling out of that recirculated air for months.
Sound familiar?
- A sump failure was cleaned up with fans and a wet vac, and nobody tested afterward.
- Your doctor asked about mold exposure, and you don't know where to start in a house that looks fine.
- The house feels stuffiest in winter, when everything is closed up and the furnace runs constantly.
- You want to know whether remediation needs to cover one room or the whole house.
We do it differently.
| An air test by itself | AME Fishers mycotoxin testing | |
|---|---|---|
| After a sump failure | Checks the air once it's dry | Checks dust for what the wet period left |
| HVAC recirculation | Not accounted for | Return and supply areas sampled |
| Mold identification | Spore types only | ERMI or HERTSMI-2 DNA testing alongside the panel |
| Remediation scope | A guess | Room-by-room results that size the job |
| Your doctor | Left out | A shareable report, with your permission |

The AME Clearance Method
Our mycotoxin testing process in Fishers
Where samples come from decides what results can tell you, so the visit is planned around your home's layout and history.
Talk to a specialist-
Map the history and layout
Past water events, where the sump is, how the HVAC system is zoned and which rooms your family uses most, along with what your doctor wants to know.
-
Check the likely sources
Moisture and thermal checks around the sump, basement walls, air handler and any area that was wet in the past.
-
Sample dust in a pattern
Bedrooms, the main living space, near a return grille and, when useful, near the suspected source. Comparing them shows whether levels rise toward one area.
-
Add DNA-based mold testing
An ERMI or HERTSMI-2 sample identifies which water-damage molds have built up, which makes the toxin results easier to interpret.
-
Lab results and a plan
Results usually arrive in 24 to 48 hours. We explain the pattern, what it suggests about the source and whether remediation looks focused or broad.
What's in a Fishers mycotoxin test
- A planning conversation about history, layout and your doctor's questions
- Moisture checks at the sump, foundation and air handler
- Settled-dust samples from several rooms for comparison
- A lab mycotoxin panel
- ERMI or HERTSMI-2 dust testing
- Indoor and outdoor air samples when useful
- A report comparing results room by room
- A copy for your doctor, with your permission

Mycotoxin testing in Fishers, explained
How recirculated air shapes the results
In an older, leakier house, some indoor dust leaves with air escaping through gaps. In a tightly built Fishers home, much less of it does. The HVAC system pulls air from the rooms, runs it through a filter and sends it back out, and the finest particles slip through standard filters and settle again. Over a heating season, that loop spreads dust from a single source across the house.
For testing, that means two things. A toxin found in a bedroom may have started somewhere else entirely, and the return side of the system is a good place to look for clues. Our page on mycotoxins in HVAC systems goes deeper.
Why we pair the panel with DNA testing
A mycotoxin panel tells you which toxins are present. It doesn’t tell you which mold made them. ERMI or HERTSMI-2 fills that gap by identifying water-damage molds in the same dust. When the two line up, for example Stachybotrys in the DNA results and trichothecenes on the panel, the story gets much clearer. ERMI vs. HERTSMI-2 explains how the two dust tests differ.
From results to remediation
Results decide the scope. When toxins cluster near the basement and the returns, remediation can often focus on that area, the air handler and the ducts, followed by detailed cleaning upstairs. When levels are similar everywhere, the plan has to include the whole living space. Either way, the same panel is repeated after the work so the numbers can be compared directly. Why household dust matters so much is covered in mycotoxins in dust.
We test homes, not people, and we don’t diagnose or treat medical conditions. A home dust panel is not a medical test. Please make health decisions with your doctor, and we’ll share results with them if you give permission.
Common questions
Have a question that isn't here? Call a specialist
Our sump failed a while back and everything was dried. Could toxins still be there?
Possibly. Drying stops mold from growing, but toxins it produced while things were wet can remain in carpet pad, the lower edge of drywall and settled dust. A panel from the rooms near and above the basement will show whether that happened.
Why sample several rooms instead of one?
Comparison is what makes results useful. If the room nearest the basement or a return grille has the highest levels and the bedrooms are lower, that points to a source and a direction of travel.
What's the difference between ERMI, HERTSMI-2 and a mycotoxin panel?
ERMI and HERTSMI-2 identify mold species in dust by their DNA. A mycotoxin panel measures the toxins themselves. Together they show which molds grew and what they left behind.
Can results tell us how big a remediation job will be?
They help a great deal. Room-by-room results, combined with the moisture inspection, show whether the problem is contained to one area or has spread through the HVAC system, which is the biggest factor in scope.
Do you coordinate with our doctor?
With your permission, yes. We send the report and can explain how samples were collected. Medical interpretation stays with your doctor.
We're done when the lab says so.
Every remediation ends with clearance testing, and our work is backed by a complete-removal guarantee. We don't close a job on a failed result.
