What does mold testing in Fishers look for?

Mold testing in Fishers looks for where indoor moisture is collecting and whether mold has started there. In the newer, tightly sealed homes common here, that often means the HVAC system, the attic over a bathroom, closets on outside walls or window frames. We measure humidity and moisture, sample indoor and outdoor air, test settled dust when needed, and a lab reports results in 24 to 48 hours.

Why tight Fishers homes fool a basic mold test

A modern Fishers home is sealed well enough that most of the air inside is recirculated through the HVAC system. That mixing spreads spores evenly and thins them out, so a single room sample rarely stands out. Meanwhile the real problem, whether a wet air-handler drain pan, frosty attic sheathing above a bath fan or a closet wall that stays cold all winter, sits somewhere nobody sampled. A test that skips humidity and moisture readings has little chance of finding it.

Sound familiar?

  • Your windows run with condensation every January, and now there's dark spotting on the frames.
  • The house smells musty when the air conditioning first kicks on in spring.
  • A closet on an outside wall smells stale, and shoes or clothing in it have spots.
  • You run a whole-house humidifier and aren't sure the setting is right.

We do it differently.

The AME Clearance Method

How we test a Fishers home

The first half of the visit finds where moisture is building up. The second half proves whether mold followed it.

Talk to a specialist
  1. Check indoor humidity

Readings in several rooms, plus a look at humidifier settings, bath fan performance and whether the dehumidifier or air conditioning is keeping up.

  2. Inspect the HVAC system

The air handler, drain pan and accessible ductwork, since the cooling side stays wet for months and the system carries dust to every room.

  3. Look up and out

Attic sheathing above bathrooms and the kitchen, plus exterior-wall closets and window frames, where warm indoor air meets cold surfaces.

  4. Sample air and dust

Indoor air in the rooms of concern with an outdoor comparison, and ERMI or HERTSMI-2 dust testing when growth may have been building for a while.

  5. Lab analysis

Results are typically ready in 24 to 48 hours.

  6. Recommend fixes in order

Moisture control first, then cleanup or remediation only where testing shows it's needed. You get all of it in writing.

What Fishers mold testing includes

Mold testing in Fishers, explained

How a tight house handles moisture

Homes built in Fishers over the past few decades are far tighter than older houses. Less outdoor air leaks in, which helps utility bills, but it also means the moisture a family creates stays indoors unless something removes it. Showers, cooking, laundry, houseplants and breathing add water to the air every day. Bath fans, range hoods and the HVAC system are supposed to carry it out. When one of them underperforms, humidity climbs without much warning.

The first signs are small: fogged windows on winter mornings, a closet that smells stale, dark dots on caulk. By the time someone calls us, mold has often settled into one or two spots where the moisture has nowhere else to go.

Where we find it in Fishers homes

  • Attic sheathing above bathrooms, when a fan vents into the attic or its duct has come loose. See our page on attic mold in Indiana.
  • The air handler and drain pan, especially when the condensate line drains slowly. More on HVAC mold in Indiana.
  • Closets and corners on exterior walls, where furniture or stored items block airflow and surfaces stay cold.
  • Window frames and sills that sweat through the heating season.
  • Basements during humid summers, around the sump and under the stairs.

Why we measure before we sample

Humidity readings, surface moisture and a thermal scan show where the problem likely is before any sample goes into a cassette. That keeps the number of samples reasonable and makes each one more meaningful. It also shapes the outcome. If testing confirms mold only on a window frame, and the cause is a humidifier set too high, the answer is cleanup and a new setting, not remediation of the whole room. Common questions

Have a question that isn't here? Call a specialist

Why does my newer Fishers home have mold on the window frames?

In cold weather, warm humid indoor air meets the coldest surface in the room, usually the glass and frame, and condenses. If that happens daily, mold can grow on the frame or caulk. The fix usually starts with lowering indoor humidity, and testing tells you whether mold has spread beyond the window.

Can my air conditioner cause mold?

The unit doesn't create mold, but its coil and drain pan are wet whenever it runs. A clogged condensate line or dirty coil can grow mold and send spores and fragments through the ducts. We check that area on every Fishers visit.

Should I test in winter or summer?

Test when you notice the problem. In winter, with the house closed and outdoor mold levels low, indoor sources stand out more clearly. Summer tests are still reliable, because every indoor sample is compared with an outdoor one from the same day.

Will testing tell me if I need better ventilation or a dehumidifier?

Often, yes. Humidity readings and where the moisture shows up usually point to the fix, whether that's a bath fan that actually vents outdoors, a basement dehumidifier or a lower humidifier setting. The report lists those before any remediation.

Do you test homes near Geist and the Nickel Plate District?

Yes. We test homes across Fishers, from lake neighborhoods around Geist Reservoir to homes near the Nickel Plate District and subdivisions toward the White River. Visits are scheduled from our Avon office.

We're done when the lab says so.

Every remediation ends with clearance testing, and our work is backed by a complete-removal guarantee. We don't close a job on a failed result.
