How much does mold remediation cost in Florida?

Short answer

It depends mostly on scope. Angi's 2026 cost guide for Tampa, the closest Gulf Coast market it publishes, puts the average at $2,548, with most jobs between $1,347 and $3,778. In Southwest Florida, AC involvement, storm or flood water, block walls and the separate fee for an independent licensed mold assessor can move a quote well outside that range in either direction.

What the published numbers say

Very few cost guides publish data for Southwest Florida cities, so the closest reliable figure comes from Tampa. Angi’s Tampa mold remediation cost guide (2026 data) reports:

  • An average of $2,548
  • A typical range of $1,347 to $3,778
  • Costs about 7.5 percent higher than Angi’s national average
  • Most removal pros charging $10 to $25 per square foot of affected area

Treat those as a starting point, not a quote. Averages blend a small closet job with a whole-house project, and they don’t tell you what was included. For the general breakdown of how remediation is priced anywhere in the country, see our national page on mold remediation cost. The rest of this page covers what’s different in Florida.

Florida factors that move the price

The independent assessor is a separate fee

Florida licenses mold assessors and mold remediators separately, and under Florida Statute 468.8419 the same company generally can’t assess and remediate the same structure within 12 months, with an exception for certified Division I contractors. In practice, that usually means two bills: one from the assessor for the inspection, sampling, scope and clearance test, and one from the remediator for the work. Budget for both. Our page on what a mold inspection costs in Florida covers the first one.

The AC system

In Southwest Florida, the air handler, drain pan and ducts are often part of the problem. Cleaning or replacing contaminated components, and cleaning ducts, adds equipment and labor. Skipping that step is one of the main reasons mold comes back after a cheap job.

Storm and flood water

Mold from a slow leak under a sink is a contained job. Mold after storm surge or flood water usually involves cutting out drywall, insulation and flooring across several rooms, plus drying the slab and block. After a major hurricane, demand for crews and equipment also rises across the region at once.

Block walls and tile floors

Concrete block doesn’t need to be removed, but it has to be dried, HEPA-vacuumed and cleaned, and that takes time. Tile over a wet slab can hide moisture that has to be found and dealt with before anything is closed up.

Condos and seasonal homes

Condo jobs can involve association rules, work-hour limits and shared walls. A seasonal home that sat closed up for months may have growth spread across contents, closets and the AC, not just one wall.

Mycotoxins and rebuild

A job that includes detailed cleaning for mycotoxins, not just mold removal, takes more labor. Putting drywall, trim and flooring back is often priced separately from remediation, so check whether a quote includes it.

How to compare Florida quotes

Two quotes can differ by thousands of dollars because they describe different jobs. Before you compare prices, ask each company:

  1. Are you working to an independent licensed assessor’s written scope?
  2. What containment will you use, and will you run negative air?
  3. Is the AC system included, and what exactly will you do to it?
  4. Which materials come out, and which are cleaned in place?
  5. Who does the clearance test, and what happens if it fails?
  6. Is putting the walls and floors back included?

A very low bid often means one of those steps is missing. The most expensive outcome is paying twice because the first job didn’t pass clearance.

Timing matters too. Mold that’s caught while it’s confined to one closet or one stretch of wall costs a fraction of what the same problem costs after a summer of spreading into the AC and the rooms around it. Getting the moisture source fixed quickly is the cheapest thing you can do.

How we price Southwest Florida jobs

An independent licensed mold assessor inspects and samples the home, writes the scope and performs clearance testing. We price the remediation to that protocol, line by line, so you can see what you’re paying for. The company testing your home has no reason to find more mold than is there, and the company removing it can’t grade its own work. Our work is backed by a complete-removal guarantee. We don’t close a job on a failed result. Insurance may cover part of the cost depending on the cause and your policy, so read the mold or fungi section before you file. You can learn more on our Florida mold remediation page.

We're done when the lab says so.

Every remediation ends with clearance testing, and our work is backed by a complete-removal guarantee. We don't close a job on a failed result.
